Places to visit on a 7-day Morocco itinerary

Here are some stand-out places to consider including in your Morocco itinerary for 7 days.

Marrakech

Thanks to the natural red ochre pigment that bedecks its walls and buildings, Marrakech is known as the Red City.

It's also a captivating city of two halves, with its ancient walled Medina, founded by Sultan Youssef Ben Tachfine in the Middle Ages, sitting in contrast to the colonial Ville Nouvelle that was built by the French in the mid-twentieth century.

As such, it’s a richly rewarding destination for travelers who love vacations that are big on history and culture.

Fez

Boasting a UNESCO-listed labyrinth of narrow alleys, secret courtyards, and lively souks, Fez is a timeless city that makes it easy to immerse yourself in history.

With its mosques and medersas, and a mile-long stretch of souks, there are enough sights in Fez el Bali (Old Fez) to fill a good few days, though immersive walking tours give great insights if you only have a day here.

If that wasn't enough, Fez is also Morocco’s culinary capital, which — to our mind — makes it a highlight of any itinerary.

Chefchaouen

Known for its charming blue-painted streets, the mountain town of Chefchaouen offers something of tranquil oasis in comparison with Marrakech and Fez.

Given that visiting Chefchaouen requires venturing into the rugged Rif mountains it was, for some time, mainly visited by intrepid backpackers.

These days, however, it’s easy to include in vacation itineraries, though it retains an off-the-beaten-track vibe, and also happens to be home to what might be Morocco’s prettiest medina.

Sahara Desert

Offering mesmerising landscapes, camel trekking trips, and the chance to learn about the Berber and Tuareg, the Sahara Desert — the world's largest hot desert — is worth considering including in any Morocco itinerary for 7 days.

It’s also a great way to enhance week-long trips. For example, you could easily add spending a few nights in a star-studded desert camp to the end of a city-focussed vacation.
