  • Tourist numbers are generally moderate (being the shoulder season), but mid-April gets busy with Songkran celebrations.

Is April a good time to visit Thailand?

April is a tantalising opportunity to experience Thailand, but at the same time, this month offers a mixed experience. On the one hand, it is the month of Songkran, the Thai New Year, which is celebrated with traditional customs and colorful processions. This cultural extravaganza offers a unique window into Thai traditions and should not be missed.

However, you should be prepared for tropical heat, especially in the northern and central regions, where temperatures can reach levels that may be uncomfortable for some travelers. The country also sees a surge in tourist numbers during Songkran, resulting in overcrowded tourist spots and higher accommodation and transport prices.

Overall, April can be a great time to visit Thailand if you want to experience the cultural splendour of Songkran and aren't afraid of the heat and crowds of tourists. For those looking for a more relaxed and comfortable vacation, other months may be worth considering.
