What is the best time to visit Mozambique

The best time to visit Mozambique is the dry season, which lasts from May to November. This period offers warmth, clear skies and minimal rainfall. June to August are particularly popular months as temperatures are milder, ranging from 20 to 25°C (68-77°F), making it comfortable for active holidays such as safaris and beach walks.

During these months, the country's stunning beaches along the Indian Ocean are at their most attractive, and visibility for diving and snorkelling in places like the Bazaruto Archipelago is excellent. Wildlife watching in national parks such as Gorongosa and Niassa is also optimal, as animals congregate near water sources and are easier to spot.

September to November is the ‘shoulder’ season, which is also a good time to visit. The weather remains pleasant and this is a great time to watch the whale migration along the coast, especially around Tofo Beach.

Visiting Mozambique during the wet season, December to April, is less advisable due to heavy rainfall, possible cyclones and increased humidity. Travelling can be more challenging and some roads and attractions may be less accessible. However, the scenery is lush and green and there are fewer tourists, which provides a more secluded holiday.
