April is the start of Egypt’s peak travel season, with warm but manageable temperatures across the country. You can explore the Pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor, and Cairo’s markets without battling the searing heat of summer. Spring is in full swing, and the pleasant weather is ideal for long days of sightseeing.
The weather in Egypt in April is also great for visiting the Red Sea if you’re after a mix of culture and beach time. The water is warm enough for swimming, and diving conditions are fantastic, with excellent visibility and plenty of marine life.
That said, be prepared for more tourists. Popular spots like the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum can get crowded. Booking your accommodation and tours in advance is a good idea if you want to beat the rush and make the most of your visit.

April sees a noticeable jump in temperatures across Egypt. Cairo’s average highs hit 81°F (27°C), with nighttime lows around 59°F (15°C). Luxor and Aswan get significantly hotter, with highs pushing 91°F (33°C) and lows staying around 63°F (17°C). Hurghada enjoys a more moderate climate, with daytime temperatures of 82°F (28°C) and nights dipping to a comfortable 66°F (19°C).
Rain is pretty much non-existent at this point, with Cairo seeing just 0.1 inches (3mm) of rain, if any at all. Daylight extends to about 13 hours, giving you ample time to bask in the sunshine, whether you're wandering through the Valley of the Kings or relaxing at a Red Sea resort.
Rough Guides tip: Decide when to plan your trip with our guide to the best time to visit Egypt.
You can expect a couple spikes in tourist crowds in April, particularly around Easter. Families come for the holiday break, which means crowded museums, busy Nile cruises, and higher prices for accommodations and tours. Around this time Luxor and the Valley of the Kings will feel extra congested, and flights can get pricey if you don’t plan ahead. That said, the rest of the month you'll find just moderate crowds.

Sham El Nessim is Egypt’s spring festival, and it’s celebrated by Egyptians of all backgrounds. People gather in parks and along the Nile to have picnics, fly kites, and enjoy the outdoors. This tradition goes back to ancient Egypt, and you’ll see foods like feseekh (salted fish), green onions, and colorful eggs being enjoyed everywhere.
In Egypt’s Western Desert, the White Desert is filled with odd, chalky rock formations that have been shaped by the wind over thousands of years. It’s a popular spot for camping under the stars. You’ll be surrounded by towering white cliffs and bizarre, otherworldly shapes.
Dahab, on the Sinai Peninsula, is a prime spot for watersports, especially in April. The weather’s perfect for snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. The Blue Hole, one of the world’s top dive sites, is nearby and full of marine life and colorful coral.
April is a great time to visit the Monastery of St. Catherine, as the cooler temperatures make hiking pleasant. This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world, located at the base of Mount Sinai. You can also hike up the mountain to catch a sunrise or sunset, where tradition holds that Moses received the Ten Commandments.
In the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, you can visit Tutankhamun’s famous tomb. While it’s not the largest tomb, it’s full of history. The golden burial mask is now in the Egyptian Museum, but the tomb’s original vibrant wall paintings are still worth taking a trip to see.
There are several festivals and events that take place in Egypt in April. Here's our pick:
