Best accommodation in Canada

Vancouver has a surprisingly large number of inexpensive hotels, but some – mainly in the area east of Downtown – are quite dingy. If you’re on a low budget, you’re better off in the hostels or the excellent YWCA. Mid-range hotels are still reasonable, but Vancouver is a tourist city and space can get tight in summer: you’ll need to book ahead. many of the nicer options are in the West end, a quiet residential area bordering Vancouver’s wonderful Stanley Park, only a 5–10min walk from Downtown. Gastown, Chinatown and the area between them hold central Vancouver’s cheapest hotels, but parts of these areas are somewhat shady at night, especially the Downtown Eastside. Vancouver is not a camper’s city: the majority of the in-city campsites are for RVs only.
