What about the crowd & cost?

Heralding the start of the city’s peak tourist season, visiting Venice in June means you should expect bigger crowds than during the March-May period. In addition, as is usually the case during peak season, you should also expect higher accommodation prices, and higher demand for places to stay, whatever your budget.

What to do in Venice in June

Whatever month you choose to visit Venice, you won’t want to miss exploring the city’s top attractions. These include St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, the Museo Leonardo da Vinci, and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Just bear in mind that increased crowds in June mean you might want to book ahead to secure skip-the-line tickets. It's also better to visit early in the day, before peak heat strikes, and visitor numbers ramp up.

Given the volume of visitors Venice attracts through the summer months, we’ve included a few easy day trips from Venice.

Potter around Prosecco Valley

In around an hour from Venice, you could immerse yourself in the valleys surrounding Conegliano. These are speckled with vineyards that are especially esteemed for their Prosecco production. For example, the Strada del Prosecco is a 42km journey west to Valdobbiadene. In good news for summer visitors, mid-June sees the town’s main square given over to a medieval pageant — the Dama Castellana.

Visit the Venetians islands

A trio of islands to the north of Venice – Murano, Burano and Torcello – are the perfect places to go on day trips from Venice. Reached in around 45-minutes from Venice, they’re packed with history and pretty places to wander.

Lounge around Lido de Venezia

Just 20 minutes by ferry from Venice, the lovely island of Lido di Venezia offers a charming break from Venice’s summer crowds.

Having established itself as Italy's most elegant bathing resort from the early 20th-century, laidback Lido boasts picturesque promenades to stroll at leisure. There’s also a sandy shoreline to stretch out on, with the gorgeous Adriatic Sea on hand when you want to chill out in warm waters.
