August, Paris is in the middle of summer. The parks and outdoor spaces are bright and full of sun, and the warm, long evenings are perfect for relaxing dinners outside. Yes, tourists are everywhere, but something about the lazy summer energy is inviting. Here’s our guide to the weather in Paris in August.

Is August a good time to visit Paris?

August can be both a great and challenging time to visit Paris. The weather is generally warm and sunny, ideal for outdoor sightseeing, with daytime temperatures ranging from mild to hot and little rain. On the downside, it’s peak tourist season, so popular attractions will be crowded, and prices for accommodations might be higher. Also, since many Parisians take their vacations in August, some smaller shops and restaurants could be closed during your visit.

Sunshine, average temperatures and rainfall in August

In August, Paris enjoys warm summer weather, with average daytime highs around 77°F (25°C) and cooler nights at about 59°F (15°C). It's one of the hottest months of the year, with sunny days perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Evenings are comfortably cool, making it great for exploring the city's nightlife or strolling through the illuminated streets. August days are still long, with around 14 hours of daylight at the start of the month, dropping to about 13 hours by the end. Rainfall is pretty low, averaging 1.6 inches (41 mm) over about 11 days, so it's one of the drier months in Paris—ideal for enjoying the city's summer atmosphere.

What about the crowds & costs?

In August, Paris gets pretty busy with tourists, so you can expect large crowds at popular attractions, museums, and landmarks. Lines tend to be longer, and it's a good idea to make reservations in advance. Along with the crowds, prices also go up — accommodation costs are usually at their peak, with hotels and vacation rentals charging premium rates. So, while it’s a lively time to visit, it’s also one of the more expensive months to experience the city.

Paris Plages is a summer highlight where the city transforms sections of the Seine into artificial beaches. You can lounge on beach chairs, play some beach volleyball, or even cool off in temporary swimming areas. It’s a fun way to escape the summer heat and enjoy a beach vibe without leaving the city.

Take a Seine River cruise

A cruise on the Seine is a great way to take in the sights of Paris, and August’s warm evenings make it even better. A sunset cruise is especially lovely, with the city’s landmarks lit up as you glide along the water. Some cruises even offer dinner options, making for a romantic evening on the river.

Attend an open-air cinema screening at La Villette

La Villette Park hosts a popular open-air film festival every August. You can relax on the grass, under the stars, and enjoy a mix of classic and modern films. It’s a laid-back, picnic-style event that both locals and tourists love.

Explore the Musée Carnavalet's summer exhibitions

The Musée Carnavalet, which focuses on the history of Paris, often features special summer exhibitions. In August, you can explore these temporary exhibits along with the museum’s permanent collection.
