October sees Mexico City build up to the country’s most iconic festivals — Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). While the main celebrations don’t happen until the end of the month and into early November, the preceding weeks see the city come alive with colorful decorations and parade preparation.
At the same time, as October marks the transition from the rainy season to the dry season, the weather here is generally mild and pleasant, with comfortable temperatures perfect for exploring iconic attractions.
These include the Zócalo (main square), the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral, all while enjoying smaller crowds compared to peak tourist season.
October is also an excellent time to explore the surrounding areas of Mexico City on day trips. Visitors can visit the archaeological site of Teotihuacan to climb the Pyramid of the Sun, tour the colorful canals of Xochimilco on a trajinera (traditional boat), or hike the scenic landscapes of the Desierto de los Leones National Park.
