Visiting Barcelona in June means you can look forward to warm summer weather, long sunny days, balmy evenings that invite al fresco dining, and stacks of seasonal festivals. At the same time, June isn’t as hot or busy as the upcoming peak high season months. Sold on the idea of visiting the capital of Catalunya in early summer? Read on for detail on the weather in Barcelona in June, along with tips on how to plan your perfect vacation.

Is June a good time to visit Barcelona?

Given that many repeat visitors cite June as one of their favorite months to visit Barcelona, it’s fair to say it’s a really great month to travel to this impossibly arty city.

And the reasons? The weather in Barcelona in June is warm, but still not at its sizzling summer peak, which makes outdoor sightseeing a joy.

It’s also a marvelous month to bliss out on local beaches, cycle the waterfront, and venture a little further afield to meander the majestic Montsserat mountains.

At the same time, June sits just ahead of the peak summer season and hosts several cultural events and festivals.

Just bear in mind that crowds begin to increase as the month wears on.

Overall, though, June is a top month to enjoy a sun-drenched vacation that offers a brilliant balance of Barcelona’s best offerings. Everyone from tapas-loving foodies, to culture vultures and sun seekers will be left well and truly sated.

Still undecided? While there are plenty of tempting reasons to visit Barcelona, you might want to weigh up whether to visit Madrid or Barcelona first

Sunshine, average temperatures and rainfall in June

June in Barcelona means summer weather is setting in, with an average low temperature range of 60°F to 65°F (16°C to 19°C), rising to an average high range of 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C).

Barcelona also sees stacks of sunshine in June, with 9-10 hours a day. For context, the low-season winter month of January sees around 4-5 hours of sunlight a day.

June is also relatively dry — though not quite as dry as July and August — with occasional rain showers amounting to 1.2 to 1.6 inches (30 to 40 mm) across the month.

Meanwhile, October — Barcelona’s wettest month — typically experiences around 2.8 to 3.2 inches (70 to 80 mm) of rain, while July (the driest month) sees in the region of 0.6 inches (15 mm).

What about the crowds and cost?

June marks the beginning of Barcelona’s high tourist season, which means crowds are on the increase, especially at major attractions like Sagrada Família and Park Güell.

The beaches also start to get busier in June, though they won’t be as packed as they are in July and August.

In line with an increase in visitor numbers comes increased demand for flights and accommodation, which means travel costs in June are higher than they are in the winter low season, and through the spring shoulder season.

As always, booking in advance is advisable if you want the chance to save some bucks, and have your eye on a particular hotel — don’t run the risk of missing out by leaving it to the last minute.
