Is November a good time to visit the Algarve?

Let’s get the obvious out of the way. If your heart is set on experiencing the Algarve in all its hot, sun-drenched glory, November’s cooler temperatures and potential for rain are likely to (ahem) rain on your parade. You’d be better off heading to one of our recommended winter sun destinations.

If, however, you’re looking for mild weather, lower costs, smaller crowds, and the chance to see the region's more authentic side, it’s worth considering visiting the Algarve in November.

Though mild, the weather in the Algarve in November is actually much warmer than many northern European countries, with average highs sitting around 19°C (66°F). Just bring the right attire for the cooler evenings and you’re set.

You’ll also want to bring a brolly and wet weather gear as November can be quite variable and unpredictable on the rainfall front.

With an average of around 86mm across the month, you’re likely to experience some rainy days during your visit. But that shouldn’t put you off taking advantage of conditions that are generally great for golfing, hiking and cycling. Or how about enjoying scenic drives along the coast?

Lastly, the small number of tourists mean the price of flights and accommodation will be less, making November a cost-effective time to visit.

What about the crowds and cost?

As mentioned above, November is a low season month in the Algarve, which is definitely a plus if you prefer a quieter holiday, or want to experience local life without the hustle and bustle of peak season.

Going hand in hand with the low visitor numbers is a reduction in the cost of flights and accommodation. So, if you’ve had your eye on a special place to stay, November might be the month to upgrade where you bed down for the night.

Editor’s tip: looking for a budget-friendly holiday, and want to escape the crowds? Consider heading off the tourist trail in Portugal. This is also a wonderful way to implement sustainable tourism in the Algarve.
